2023 This is the next step in developing the studio cnc machine to a 5 axis machine. Starting with the A/C Head design from the Perez machine from 2010, the A/C head is modified slightly for easier (hopefully) fabrication and alignment.
The drive gear inside the C axis drive box which is part of the base of the Z carriage (blue trussed frame) is a 2 part machined assembly that modifies a standard pulley and adapts to the solid shaft of the A-fork. This pulley turns the C axis (Blue fork assembly). The height of this machine is over 9ft. To give it about 23 inches of Z travel and still allow the A/C head to operate.
Right: The adapter plate for the C axis drive motor is milled on the Version 1.3 table because of its superior stiffness.
Below: the C axis drive gears are pressed together on the shaft with the shop press.
The closest the 5 axis has come so far to the ultimate intent has been this game table the main structure of which was carved from a solid Eucalyptus chunk from our Eucalyptus harvesting project.
Another adaptations and processes possible because of the 5 axis head are like enabling bevel cutting of steel. The key is to turn off the torch height controller on the Mach3 control screen and make sure your cut height is right for your cut.
