Aerated Autoclaved Concrete

 

Aerated autoclaved concrete is soft and can be carved with wood carving tools.  Carbide is better, but the possibilities are tremendous.  It could be stacked after carving—or even CNC carved from CAD models, shipped to a site, and stacked in place.

 

 It is insulating by means of it’s closed cell structure which is created by alumina, as an ingredient of the mix, off-gassing during curing in high temperature steam (the autoclave).  It will float in water, and has tested and predictable compressive and shear properties that can be used in reinforced masonry calculations.
