 . . . forge ahead . . .

The concept for the hardware on the project is to make it with simple, common materials so that it can be made durable and repairable.  It is meant to be rustic and imperfect to blend with the site and the nature of the raw and simple materials used in the construction and finishes of the structures themselves.

The Captain’s Wheel

N. clerestory glazed panel operator

This one’s for a 6’xquare panel that is a 1” IGU and weighs about 150+ # & is about 21’ above the floor at it’s top.  There is no “off-the-shelf” window hardware that can handle a panel of this size, let alone at this height.  This system lets one open this panel from the floor with a crank assembly.

This is a 9’square screen door made with steel pipe & flat bar with a cypress screen attachment frame.  The hardware is a simple flip latch & handles are drop pieces of #10 rebar from the NW pier reinforcement.

These slider operators are to open the awning windows and use 1/2” 316L SS rod.  The sill/Jamb bracket is made of steel plate, a piece of 1/2” tubing, &  is screwed to the sill/jamb using nylon washers to allow swivel.  The “T-screws” are just 3/8” threaded rod w/ a piece of the 1/2” ss rod.
